Follow these steps carefully to install a 2-DIN frame and head unit into your Mitsubishi Outlander:
1. Remove the Lower Panel
Start by gently pulling the lower part of the dashboard panel towards you (refer to the photo for guidance). It should come off without too much force.
2. Disconnect the Connectors
Once the panel is removed, disconnect all electrical connectors from the back of the panel. You can set the panel aside for now.
3. Adjust the Climate Control Knobs
If your vehicle has climate control, position the control knobs vertically and carefully pull them off.
4. Remove the Old Head Unit
Now, remove the existing head unit. It should be secured with screws or brackets. Carefully pull it out from the mounting area.
5. Unscrew the Old Frame
There are two screws that hold the old frame in place. Use a screwdriver to remove them and set them aside.
6. Remove the Old Panel
The old panel is secured with six clips. Carefully pry them loose using a trim tool or your hands, then remove the panel.
7. Remove the Old Bracket
The old bracket that held the head unit in place is secured by four screws. Unscrew these and remove the bracket.
8. Remove the Scales from the Old Panel
If your vehicle has a panel with scales (e.g., a temperature scale for climate control), you'll need to transfer them to the new panel. To do this, carefully heat the scales using a hair dryer to loosen the adhesive. Once heated, use a flat tool or tweezers to gently lift the scales off the old panel.
9. Attach the Scales to the New Panel
Now, take the scales and apply a small amount of adhesive to the back. Carefully place them onto the new 2-DIN panel, ensuring they align perfectly.
10. Install the New Brackets
Take the new brackets (part numbers: MN124401 for the right and MN124402 for the left). Attach the brackets to the sides of the new head unit using screws. Then, secure the mounting plates inside the dash using two screws for each side. You will need a total of 10 M5 screws for this step.
11. Install the New Head Unit
Insert your new 2-DIN head unit into the brackets, ensuring it fits snugly. You may need to adjust the depth using washers to ensure the unit sits flush with the dashboard.
12. Address the Gap (If Necessary)
Depending on the size of your 2-DIN head unit, there may be a small gap between the head unit and the surrounding dashboard. Many 2-DIN units come with a flat frame. If necessary, trim the frame to fit the gap, and if desired, you can paint the frame to match the interior. Use adhesive sealant to secure the frame in place.
Final Steps: Once everything is securely in place, reconnect all the wiring, attach the panel back into position, and test the new head unit to make sure everything is working properly.
Enjoy your upgraded Mitsubishi Outlander with a new and modern entertainment system!
